Get Out the Vote 2018

2018 is a big year for elections. We will be electing a new Governor, Federal Senators and Congressmen, and State Senators and State Representatives. Federal considerations under these new leaders will include Tax Policy, Health Care and Social Security.  Local Tennessee issues will include Medicaid expansion and work requirements.  Advocacy begins with voting!

Voting is both a right and a responsibility:

A RIGHT: As a citizen in the United States who is over 18 years old, you have the right to vote. When you vote you help elect the people who make the laws that affect your life.

A RESPONSIBILITY: There are many issues that affect people with disabilities. All voters have a responsibility to know what they want to vote for. Educate yourself about issues that are important to you. Read newspapers, watch the news, and search the internet to learn about candidates and issues you are interested in.

DSDC will host voter registration opportunities soon for anyone not currently registered to vote – details will be shared once complete.   For more information, contact Robyn Lampley at rlampley@dsdc.org.

Chicken and Italian sausage bake

  • Slice one package of mild Italian sausage into 2 inch pieces and place in a casserole dish.
  • Add several smaller quartered raw chicken parts, such as legs, thighs, and wings.
  • Spread one can of peas around the casserole dish in the areas around the meat.
  • Chop up one large baking potato or several smaller red potatoes and add them to the casserole dish.
  • Chop one whole yellow onion into 8 pieces and put them in the dish.
  • Put one small can of sliced mushrooms in the dish.
  • Add several pepperoncini peppers to the dish.
  • Liberally drizzle olive oil over the contents of the casserole.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste
  • Sprinkle with 1 to 2 tablespoons of dried rosemary.
  • Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake on 350 for 1 hour, then remove the aluminum foil and bake for 20 to 30 minutes more, or until the potatoes start to crisp on the outside and the onions start to caramelize. Serve and enjoy.
