Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on all of the blessings that the past year has brought, to remember the lessons that we have learned through the tough times and to look forward to the bright days in our future.

Welcome, and welcome back, to The Arc!

As in years past, we are providing all DSDC direct support professionals an annual membership to the Dickson chapter of The Arc.   This local membership will also include membership in both The Arc Tennessee and The Arc U.S.

Throughout the year, you will receive mailings from these larger organizations with information about state and national programs and initiatives.  Local chapter communications will be included in our newsletter, or will be sent out via email.  If you would like to be added to our email list, please notify Robyn Lampley at rlampley@dsdc.org

Our email communications will also include Action Alerts – notifications of time-sensitive requests for legislative contact.  As you may know, it is quick and easy with email to reach out to our legislators to express our thoughts and concerns on bills under consideration.  For example, in 2018, we were able to help encourage the Tennessee legislature to pass a bill to stop corporal punishment for students with an IEP (receiving special education services).

The following flyer is something The Arc U.S. has put together for their fundraising efforts.  Fundraising is not the focus of today’s communication, but the flyer provides a wonderful overview of the past, present, and future of The Arc.

The main point of this advocacy organization is that together we can achieve much.   If you would like to know more, or if you would like to volunteer for local efforts, please let me know.

Thank you!

Robyn Lampley

Mushroom and vegetable stew

  • Chop one whole zucchini, one whole yellow onion, one whole head of broccoli, and one whole head of cauliflower, and place all of the vegetables into a crock pot.
  • Add one can of peas to the crock-pot.
  • Add one package of mushrooms to the crock-pot. Make sure to wipe the mushroom caps off first with a damp paper towel to remove excess dirt.
  • Add 1 cup of water to the crock-pot.
  • Add 2 cans of crème of mushroom soup to the crock-pot.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
  • Cook on low heat for 4 to 5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Set to the ‘keep warm’ setting and then sprinkle approximately 2 cups of shredded cheddar or Colby Jack cheese on top and allow to melt, then serve with bread for dipping.
