GOOD NEWS

Effective July 2 DSP wages at the agency shall be increasing.  The base wage for DSPs will increase by $0.70 per hour.  This will bring the starting wage to $10.00 per hour.  Each step along the scale will likewise be increased.  In addition, the steps of the scale shall be increased from $0.15 per hour to $0.25 per hour.  So in addition to the $0.70 per hour increase, there will be an additional $0.25 per hour for every year of service.  As an example, an individual that has been at the agency for five years will see their base wage increase from $10.05 per hour to $11.25 per hour (an increase of $1.02 per hour) on Monday, July 2.  These adjustments will occur automatically and you will not need to sign anything.

This wage increase is largely a result of action by the Tennessee General Assembly, which recognizes the need to pay people well for the important work that you do.  While we will continue to work with the legislature to try to obtain future increases, we are happy to be able to offer this increase now.  If you get a chance to talk with your state senator or representative, please let them know that this has been a positive step.

Mike Price’s Kitchen Tip:

You can put cut up apples in lemon juice and water to keep them from turning brown if you won’t be eating them right away.

This is called oxidizing and is harmless, but doesn’t look that appetizing. Covering an avocado or fresh guacamole in lemon juice will also stop them from browning.

Great make ahead breakfast

Muffin Tin Eggs

12 eggs

1/4 cup milk or water

salt and pepper

1/2 cup shredded cheddar

assorted veggies or meat

Grease a muffin pan and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs, milk, cheese, salt and pepper together in medium bowl. put 2 TBLS of whatever filling you like into each muffin tin. (Onions, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, ham, bacon, sausage) fill muffin cup with egg mixture and bake for 12-15 minutes until set. Can be refrigerated or frozen and reheated as needed.

You can make all the “muffins” the same, or make different combinations, and you have 12 ready to go breakfasts- no carbohydrates (if you omit the cheese) lots of protein.
