Surviving winter!
It is easy for discouragement and boredom to settle in during the winter months. There is seems to be nothing to look forward to and the days are cold and dark. However, with some effort, you can breeze through these long months and actually enjoy yourself!
Here are a few suggestions:
- Dress in layers and go outside for a short walk early in the day. Take the kids with you. They will enjoy the fresh air and movement.
- If you cannot make it outside, start your own family exercise class in the living room. Each person can choose one exercise for the group to do. Exercise will boost your mood.
- Make your house bright, cheerful and organized. Sit near a window for natural light help.
- Keep yourself on a regular sleep schedule.
- Limit your intake of caffeine
- Listen to upbeat music.
- Volunteer your time to help others.
- Take a multivitamin containing vitamin D-3 each day. The sun’s rays on the skin create Vitamin D and this absorption decreases during the winter.
- Set a new goal and make step-by-step plans to achieve it. Reaching a goal, no matter how small, will help you feel in control and confident.
- Plan a game night with friends and family.

Mike’s Kitchen Tips
• Poor a little bit of oil in a pot of boiling pasta to prevent the pasta from sticking together and make it easier to separate.
• Add a little bit of the water that you boiled pasta in to the marinara sauce to enhance the flavor of the sauce.
