People First Easter Event Giving Back to the Community!

Thank you DSDC for all of your Easter Contributions!  We had a grand total of 1,602 filled eggs!  We also had donated stuffed animals and gift bags for the families that received virtual classes.

I am so proud of our People First, the donations from the Dickson County Sherriff’s Office and how hard those we support worked to fill and distribute 1,602 Easter Eggs!

We were able to host all four egg hunts for the Head Start within the County.  A special “thank you “to the staff that donated the costume and the People First Member that wore it for the children at the different Head Start sites.

We all had a great time seeing the children hunt the eggs and making new community friends too!

We have now Partnered with the Dickson County Head Start for events throughout the year to “give back” to our local community.

People First Dickson County Chapter May Update:

This month each week throughout May the Dickson Chapter met to prepare for the Freedom Fest we were co-hosting.

We had a great turn-out and participation each week.  We held classes on Self Advocacy/ Leadership and increasing social skills to make new friends.

During our classes we also worked on how to greet someone new and how to be a Leader/ Host.

We also worked together on different scenario’s and role playing on talking with someone new.

We also role-played different scenarios we might come in contact with at the event, such as someone inquiring about water or if they needed to locate a restroom.

Each week we made different print outs of what it means to be a Leader and talked about those each week too.

We are so proud of the Self-Advocate Leaders we have here at DSDC as well as the wonderful DSP Mentors that participate in People First.

Each person created different posters for the “Freedom Fest “Event and did a great job creating signs for others to learn more about People First.

Our group chose their logo and shirts for the event and held weekly meeting about general business and upcoming activities.

If you are interested in joining People First please feel free to reach out to President, Lisa Gail Newby or any of our Mentors.  We would love to have you be a part of People First.

We will now start working on our community give-back events for the summer months.  All events and activities are chosen by the members of People First.

We typically meet on Wednesdays at the Bibb Center at 10am before “Dream with Me” and I will send out emails on our PHS system, call or text members as well.

Thank you everyone for the successful People First Freedom Fest Event!

Freedom Fest 2022

DSDC People First Chapter Co-Hosted the Event 05-25-2022 with the Arc of TN at Montgomery Bell State Park.

We had attendees from Memphis, Lawrenceburg, Shelbyville and all throughout the State.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and we had a photo booth, DJ, food, prizes and “Dream with Me” presentation too.

A special thank-you to all of the volunteers that worked so hard to make this event happen!

Thank you to the People First Dickson County Chapter and to all of those staff that volunteered, we cannot say “Thank You” enough.
