$Referral Bonus$

As a reminder, DSDC offers a $500 referral bonus. Please read the below guidelines from our Human Resource Policy Manual. Please contact Faith Smith, HR Coordinator, with any questions at 615-446-1039.

EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS
POLICY:
The agency invites and encourages employees to recommend applicants for any posted job. Employees are our best source for identifying qualified individuals to join the agency.  Employees know the qualities the organization looks for and the skills and personalities that make the agency a success. All employees are encouraged to submit recommendations for vacancies.

PRACTICE:
1. To refer an applicant, employees must submit a recommendation to the administrative office using the Employee Referral form and include the applicant’s resume (if available) and position for which the candidate is applying.  This form must be submitted before the prospective employee is hired.
2. In appreciation for helping recruit the very best candidates, the employee who made the referral will be eligible for a referral bonus after the referred candidate has been employed, successfully completed the initial review period, and achieved regular status.
3. The standard amount of the bonus will be determined by the agency from time to time. It may be based on the employment needs of the agency.
4. To receive the bonus, the employee who made the referral must be actively employed by the agency at the end of the 90-day introductory period.
5. Employees involved in the hiring process, including the Executive Director, Associate Executive Director, and Coordinator of Human Resources are not eligible to participate in this program.  Employees are also not eligible for this incentive if they are recruiting someone who will report directly to them in the course of their normal duties.

Dream with Me

We have several people here at DSDC that participate in Dream with Me.  We meet with Ms. Debby Throckmorton each week at the White Bluff Bibb Center.  Currently we meet on Wednesdays at 11am until 2pm but we will be changing to Tuesdays after the July 15, 2022 performance at the White Bluff Bibb Center at 5:30pm.

The words “Truly Magical” is what Debby and I both described after our last few practices.  People are singing, writing their own songs and some people are singing that do not verbally interact with others!   Seeing their confidence and how much they are enjoying themselves getting up to sing and act has been amazing.

Dream with Me is an artistic, inclusive community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through the arts she provides every student with the training, space, and professional support to find their voice and shine.

PROGRAMS

SINGING WORKSHOPS

Each student will sing a song of his or her choice as well as participate in a group song. The student will receive vocal training and learn about song performance technique. Students will sing with a professional singer. At the end of the workshop, the singers will perform their songs for the public on a Zoom showcase event.

SKETCH COMEDY WORKSHOPS

Each student will learn acting, improvisation, teamwork and comedic timing.  They will also help write the sketches. The students will be filmed in one to three sketches for a Zoom showcase.

SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS

Students will learn how to write and perform an original

song. In the workshop they will be taught the basics of songwriting while working on original songs. Students will also spend a class co-writing with one of the hit songwriters of Country Music.  Past songwriters have been Rafe Van Hoy and Don Henry. At the end of the workshop students will have

the opportunity to perform their original songs.

If you are interested in participating or know someone who might be, if you would like to just come and see what it is all about, you are welcome to come and check out the class!

Freedom Fest

The Arc of TN sponsored a celebration on May 25th at Montgomery Bell State Park last month. The event took place at the one of the Camp Ground sites. There were about 250 people from all over the state in attendance. Although, the sporadic rain showers kept everyone inside for most of the day. The DJ kept the music booming and Frank Meeuwis from the Arc kept doling out the prizes.

Debbie Throckmoreton from Dream with Me presented during the affair and Direct Support Professional staff and many administrative staff helped make the event a success. This gathering was day packed with formal and informal education sessions, prizes, camaraderie and music. Our own People First representatives were official liaisons during the event.

Spring Fling Extravaganza

DSDC hosted our long-awaited return to pre-Covid parties last week. The gathering took place at the Tennsco Community Center. The event was a potluck celebration with our inaugural Dessert Baking Contest. We want to thank all the People Supported, Direct Support Staff, and Families that donated items to share with the party goers and those that participated in the Baking Contest. All the food and desserts were exceptional.

People Supported, Direct Support Staff and Administrative Staff all grabbed hold of the Karaoke microphone and would not put it down. Many people showed off their dance skills out on the dance floor. Everyone left with their bellies full, feet hurting from dancing and out of breath from singing. Overall, it was a great success. Looking forward to the next event. If you have any suggestions or ideas for gatherings in the future please do not hesitate to pass them along.

Kinsman Redeemer

People First representatives took donations to the Kinsmen Redeemer Ministries. There ministry constantly accept donations to feed local homeless person’s in Dickson County. We brought our donations last Thursday. We would like to donate water, Gatorade and heat resistant snacks on July 15th. Please bring all donations to the main office upstairs in Richard Streck’s office.
